Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit: 18 to 45 years as of January 1, 2026. Relaxation of up to five years is provided for SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and certain other categories from Himachal Pradesh.
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • 10+2 from a recognized Board/University12.
    • OR Matriculation with a 1-2 year ITI Diploma in IT/ITES or a 3-year Diploma in Computer Engineering/CS/IT from a polytechnic.
    • Mandatory Requirement: Candidates must have passed Matric and 10+2 from an institution within Himachal Pradesh, unless they are Bonafide Himachalis.
  • Typing Speed: 30 words per minute in English OR 25 words per minute in Hindi.

Mode of Selection & Syllabus

  • Screening Test: A Computer Based Test (CBT) or written screening test consisting of 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) worth 120 marks. The duration is 1.5 hours.
  • Qualifying Marks: 45% for General category and 40% for reserved categories.
  • Syllabus: Includes subjects of 10+2 level, Computer Science/IT relating to the essential qualification, General Knowledge of HP, Current Affairs, Everyday Science, Logic Reasoning, Social Science, and Matric-standard English and Hindi.
  • Skill Test: A qualifying typing test on computer for those who pass the screening test2.

Fees

  • Total Fee: ₹800 (₹100 examination fee + ₹700 processing fee) for all categories.
  • Correction Fee: ₹100.

    1. Computer Science & Information Technology (Core Subject)
    This section is typically the most significant part of the JOA (IT) exam, covering the essential qualifications notified in the advertisement.
    Computer Fundamentals: History of computers, generations, and types of computers.
    Hardware: Input/Output devices, memory units (RAM, ROM, Cache), and storage devices.
    Software: System software vs. Application software, Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, DOS).
    MS Office Suite: Deep dive into MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Access (including shortcuts and formulas).
    Data Communication & Networking: OSI Model, TCP/IP, network topologies (Bus, Star, Ring), LAN/WAN/MAN, and networking devices (Routers, Switches).

    Social Science: Fundamental concepts of History, Civics, and Geography at the Matric level.
    4. Language Proficiency (Matric Standard)
    General English: Grammar, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, phrases, and sentence correction.

    Skill Test (Qualifying Phase)
    Candidates who pass the written screening test will move to the typing test.
