Operations on real numbers, definition of nth<br>root of a real number, Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic.<br>b) POLYNOMIALS AND EQUATIONS: Definition of a polynomial in one<br>variable, Coefficients of a polynomial, terms of a polynomial and zero<br>polynomial, Degree of a polynomial, Constant, linear, quadratic and cubic<br>polynomials, Monomials, binomials, trinomials, Factors and multiples, Zeros of a<br>polynomial, Relationship between zeros and coefficients of quadratic<br>polynomials, Quadratic equation, Cubic equation, biquadratic equations, roots<br>and relations between roots and coefficients of these equations, Relationship<br>between discriminant and nature of roots.<br>c) SETS, RELATION AND FUNCTIONS: Sets and their representations, Empty<br>set, Finite and Infinite sets, Equal sets, Subsets, Subsets of the set of real<br>numbers especially intervals (with notations), Power set, Universal set, Venn<br>diagrams, Union and intersection of sets, Difference of sets, Complement of a<br>set, Properties of Complement sets, Definition of relation, Function as a special<br>kind of relation from one set to another, Real valued function of the real<br>variable, domain and range of these functions, constant, identity, polynomial,<br>rational, modulus, signum and greatest integer functions with their graphs,<br>Sum, difference, product and quotients of functions.<br>d) SEQUENCE AND SERIES: Arithmetic Progression (A.P.), Arithmetic Mean<br>(A.M.), Geometric Progression (G.P.), general term of a G.P., sum of n terms of a<br>G.P. Logarithmic differentiation. Derivative of<br>functions expressed in parametric forms. Second order derivatives. Successive<br>differentiation, Leibnitz\u2019s theorem. Indeterminate forms, Rolle\u2019s theorem,<br>Lagrange\u2019s &amp; Cauchy Mean Value theorems, Taylor\u2019s theorem with Lagrange\u2019s<br>and Cauchy\u2019s forms of remainder, Taylor\u2019s series. Maclaurin\u2019s series. Concavity,<br>Convexity &amp; Points of Inflexion, Curvature, Radius of curvature, center of<br>curvature, Asymptotes, Singular points, Double point, Functions of several<br>variables (upto three variables): Limit and Continuity of these functions Partial<br>differentiation, Euler\u2019s theorem on homogeneous functions, Maxima and<br>Minima with Lagrange Multipliers Method (two variables), Jacobian (upto three<br>variables).Applications of derivatives: Rate of change, increasing\/decreasing<br>functions, tangents and normals, approximation, maxima and minima (first<br>derivative test motivated geometrically and second derivative test. Applications of Complex numbers.<br>k) PERMUTATIONS AND COMBINATIONS: Fundamental principle of<br>counting. Factorial n. Permutations and combinations derivation of formulae and<br>their connections, applications of Permutations and Combinations.<br>l) BINOMIAL THEOREM: Binomial theorem for positive integral indices and<br>rational index. Pascal\u2019s triangle, general and middle term in binomial expansion.<br>m) MATRICES AND DETERMINANTS: Concept, order, equality, types of<br>matrices, Addition, multiplication and scalar multiplication of matrices,<br>properties of addition, multiplication and scalar multiplication. Noncommutativity of multiplication of matrices and existence of non-zero matrices<br>whose product is the zero matrix. Concept of elementary row and column<br>operations. Invertible matrices and uniqueness of inverse, if it exists,<br>Determinant of a square matrix properties of determinants, minors, cofactors<br>and applications of determinants in finding the area of a triangle. Adjoint and<br>inverse of a square matrix. Height and Distance.<br>q) TWO-DIMENSIONAL GEOMETRY (COORDINATE GEOMETRY): Shifting<br>of origin. Slope of a line and angle between two lines. Various forms of equations<br>of a line: parallel to axes, point-slope form, slope-intercept form, two-point<br>form, intercepts form and normal form. General equation of a line, Equation of<br>4 | P a g e<br>family of lines passing through the point of intersection of two lines, Distance of<br>a point from aline, Circle, ellipse, parabola, hyperbola, a point, a straight line and<br>pair of intersecting lines as a degenerated case of a conic section.
